(2/21 Update from Tony)
ROUTE (6/16/01)

A FLY-IN TO THE SEATTLE AREA?
Are you interested in making a flight up the West coast to the Arlington WA FLY-IN just NE of Seattle? Enroute there's spectacular scenery and at the Fly-In there many unusual planes, airshows, then shop at the many booths at the aviation swap meet? It's like a scaled down version of Oshkosh. If you're interested, then read on.

Once a year Mike Gretton and me share the cost of flying 2 planes with other pilots to one of the BIG EAA FLY-INs. We flew to Arlington twice and Oshkosh WI twice. This July we're flying back to Arlington (AW0).

On our last flight to Arlington, we flew the inland route along the Eastern side of the Cascades Mtns, around Crater Lake, down the Columbia River and around Mt St Helens.

On the return trip we flew down the Oregon coast to Tillamook, Cresent City, San Francisco and Catalina. The round trip took us about 25 hours.

These are scenic, fun flights, so we fly ONLY VFR and seldom land at airports with control towers. Occasionally WX makes us do a "180" and we scoot back to the closest airport. Then you realize you're better off "down here" wishing we were "up there", than up there wishing...

If you're interested in making this spectacular flight, contact Mike or me. It's the same as on our local Fly-Ins with air-air chatter, but a bit longer and with a more fun stops along the way.

The Arlington Fly-In is July 11-15. Depending on weather, we'll leave about July 8th and return July 15th.  For more info on the Arlington Fly-In, check out this website: http://www.nweaa.org/

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
TONY TEX
