Hi Guys,

  The 11/18 Fly-In to Brackett Field was done by a mixture of seven
different planes and thirteen people. Bret & Lisa Strain and Gary Kauffmann
in a 172; Mike Gretton and Andy Silver in a 172; Chris Claborne (our
webmaster) in a 172RG; Larry & George Rothrock in a Great Lakes; Dennis
Cullum in a RV3; Paul Hanson in an Offshoot; and Gary Ghio, Manny Ambrosio
and me in an Arrow. Now that's a gaggle of different geese.

   The weather was excellent. Montgomery was 7 mile vis and clear and
Brackett Field 20 and clear. Although later the vis did deteriorate to 7
miles with smog in the LA Basin.

  The LA Basin had lots of traffic and some planes used flight following
with SoCal Approach, so we didn't do much talking on 123.45, but we all did
meet at the restaurant. The food was okay, but the service left something to
be desired. However, to be fair, the ONE waitress handling all 13 hangar
flying pilots at one table did have her hands full. It was fun to hangar fly
on the restaurant patio near the runway with all that good airplane noise
from taking offs, landings and taxiing near us.

  After breakfast, we walked around and eyeballed a variety of planes and
classic cars that were on on display there. On departure, everyone sort of
went there own way. Some returned to San Diego via the route West of the
rocks over the coast line and others did Easterly route by Lake Elsinore.

  It was a great day to fly and link up with fellow aviators.

  Take a look at the pictures on the Fly-In website that Chris Claborne has
set up for us.

  CHRIS, here are the names of people in the pictures;
  2nd row, 3rd from left is Dennis Cullum, Mike Gretton and Andy Silver;
  2nd row, 4th from left is Paul Hanson and Tony Tex;
  3rd row, 1st on left is Bret & Lisa Strain, Chris Claborne, Dennis Cullum,
Mike Gretton, Andy Silver, Paul Hanson, Tony Tex and Manny Ambrosio.

  NEXT FLY-IN... DEC 9TH...  SANTA PAULA (SZP). The alternate will be either
Chiriaco Summut (L77) or Calexico (CXL). L77 has a decent restaurant and the
General Patton Museum, and CXL has EXCELLENT MEXICAN food. Do you have any
alternate preferences?

  Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

TONY TEX
