Hi Guys,
Good turn-out for the Jan 13th Fly-In to Calexico. EIGHT planes and
NINETEEN people flew on this one.
Everyone left around 0900. From Montgomery (MYF) there was: Chris,
Jeanette, Jaun & Bill in a 182; Gary G, Gary K & Wes in an Arrow; Mike
&
Andy in a 172; Bret in a 172; and Jim & me in a 172. From Gillespie (SEE)
there was: Jeff, Allison, Mike & Valerie in a 172 and Steve & Meg in
an
Archer. And from Brown Field (SDM) came Dennis in his Tomahawk (his other
plane is an RV4).
Enroute we chatted (maybe too much for some) about positions relative
to
one another and comments about the terrific weather we were experiencing.
Because I fly in Bravo Airspace a lot each week, it felt good to be away
from the radar environment and do some relaxed, fun flying. Dennis was one
of the first to land at CXL, but because of the restaurant's seating
arrangement, getting a table in advance to seat everyone wasn't possible. So
we ended up taking four tables which worked out fine anyway.
We confirmed the restaurants reputation... good food and bad
service. But
what the heck, when nineteen people unexpectedly arrive at a small airport
restaurant that seats 30-40 people, what can you expect. The "waitress in
charge" said she called in extra help, but it still took a while to cook
the
vittles. During the wait I got caffeine withdrawal pains and grabbed the
coffee pot and refilled cups. When the food did arrive, most agreed it was
good, even though the service was a notch below bad. But it was fun. And our
webmaster Chris managed to get at least one picture of everyone. See the
pictures of this Fly-In on Chris Claborne's website:
Next Fly-In is on Sun, Feb 17th to Rosamond (L00). It's about 15
nm west
of Edwards AFB. Check the above website for route, location and there's even
a webpage of L00 with a picture of the airport and inside view of the
restaurant. They do have a decent Mexican buffet... so we can't complain
about the service.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
