Hi Guys,

Well the WX did as expected. There was a solid cloud cover from MYF all
the way up to, and beyond, our original destination, Camarillo (CMA). So we
went to our alternate destination, Palm Springs (PSP).

Even with people canceling due to WX other reasons, we still ended up with
four planes and six people. Bob Werve and Don McManus departed SEE in a
Skymaster C337 on an IFR flight plan. Chris Claborne in a C172RG and Jeff
Cary and me in a C172 departed MYF on an IFR to VFR clearance on top. Dennis
Cullum called me just before take off and said he'd try to depart Brown
Field (SDM) VFR in his Beech Skipper, but wasn't sure he could make it. Jeff
and me punched out on top of a big, beautiful, fluffy white rug with a
bright sun beaming down on us. It was great. Once we got to the hills just
south of PSP, there were no clouds. I almost wanted to go back over the
white rug.

Chris and me chatted on 123.45 after we left SoCal. We never heard from
Bob Werve or Dennis Cullum. We figured Bob stayed with SoCal on his IFR
flight plan, but thought that maybe Dennis didn't make it out VFR.

When the three planes that went IFR landed at PSP, guess who was already
there? Ya! Dennis Cullum. And he got out VFR. He keeps with his RAF
tradition. If there's a way, Dennis will do it.

Over breakfast we did the usual stuff... lots of hangar flying.

Check the pictures that Chris put up on our website.

The first picture from left to right, back row is: Bob Werve and Don
McManus. Bottom row is Jeff Cary, yours truly, Dennis Cullum and our
webmaster, Chris Claborne.

The second picture is yours truly with a cool hat that Chris presented to
me at breakfast. He made a nice talk about my flying abilities (he lies a
lot) and always tries to make me cry in public.

The third picture is Dennis Cullum's Beech Skipper, not a Tomahock. Chris'
did that to show he's not perfect.

Anyway, after solving the world's problems over breakfast we scattered
different ways toward our respective airports.

Next Fly-In is on July 8th to Arlington, WA. Chris has info on that in the
website.

The Fly-In after that is on August 10th to Big Bear.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds.

Tony Tex
