Hi Guys,
We had a pretty good turn out for our fun Fly-In to Camarillo (CMA) on
Sun, Aug 10th. Thirteen people in five planes from four airports made this
one.
Brown (SDM): Dennis Cullum & Jeff Cary flew a Tomahawk.
Gillespie (SEE): Bob Werve & Don McManus flew a C337.
Las Vegas (LAS): David & Betty Kennedy and David & Janice
Steven flew a
C337.
Montgomery (MYF): Andy Silver & Mike Gretton flew a Comanche, and
Chris &
Jaun Claborne and me flew a C172.
The weather cooperated and it was severe clear all the way up the coast
into CMA. Would you believe even the LA Corridor was severe clear and you
could see the Queen Mary and LAX in detail from 4500'. Now that's clear for
the LA Basin. There really wasn't much traffic anywhere for such a
beautiful, sunny Sunday morning.
We all staggered into CMA within 10-15 minutes of each other and met at
the Waypoint Cafe. Temperatures were considerable cooler there.
Unfortunately, John Martin, the pilot who flew the California flag to the
Twin Towers Memorial, had to go on an Angel/Mercy flight, so we didn't get
to meet him or see pictures of the Memorial. After a couple hours with lots
of happy hangar flying over breakfast, some aviation jokes and pictures, we
all scattered on our own routes back to San Diego. It was a fun time
fullfilling an excuse to go flying and meet aviator friends.
We decided Big Bear (L35), on Sun, Sept 7th, would be our next Fly-In.
We
didn't select an alternate. If the weather isn't good at (L35), chances are
it won't be good anywhere else.
Chris Claborne took some pictures and will have them on the website
soon.
If you took pictures, please get them to Chris so he can get them on our
website.
For those of you who've asked me what our webmaster, Chris Claborne,
looks
like, on the first page of the website, I've asked him to post a picture of
himself in the near future. This guy deserves lots of credit for voluntarily
giving us lots of "full service" in keeping our website up.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
