We had a good gaggle of geese for our Rosamond (L00) Fly-In on Sun, Jan
11. Seven planes and fourteen people made the L00 Fly-In. Someone said there
were eight planes. Is there a phantom flyer I missed?
Four planes flew out of SEE: Jeff Cary & Jerry Jackson in a C-172; Robert
Werve, Don McManus & Butch Jones in a C-337; Gary Ghio & Gary Kauffman in a
TURBO Arrow; and Doc & Ted Kennedy in a C-337. One plane flew out of SDM:
Dennis Cullum in an RV3. Two planes flew out of MYF: Chris & Juan Claborne
in a C-182 and Jim Newport & me in a C-337.
It was a terrific day for our L00 Fly-In. I guess enough of us put our
hands together and asked the Weather Buddha to give us decent flying weather
because it was severe clear all the way up there. You could even see the LA
Basin without squinting. We all arrived around 1030 and within 15 minutes of
The five or six tiedown spaces in front of the Golden Cantina Restaurant
filled up quickly and the Arrow and C-182 had to park in the "south forty"
on the west end of the airport, a five minute walk away. The Mexican buffet
was terrific and as predicted everyone ditched their diet and dove into a
great spread of food. If anyone left hungry, it was their own fault. I
believe that if you tallied up what we all ate, we probably flew out with an
extra hundred pounds.
Besides solving the world's problems there was
lots of hangar flying on
the usual, "You shoulda seen me at 50 feet AGL, over the water, inverted and
the engine locked up". Robert Werve was designated as our representative to
airport for brunch. We also decided that during southern California's
"winter", the next few Fly-Ins will be in the high desert and the next
Fly-In will be to Mohave (MHV) on Sun, Feb 15.
Our webmaster, Chris
Claborne, has updated our website with L00 pictures
that he and Robert Werve took. When you check out our website below, notice
the cool picture Chris has of a weird machine (who knows what it is?) over
the windmills at MHV.
I don't know about you guys, but I had a great
time flying into L00 and
hangar flying with you all over brunch. So, get your plane ready, or get one
schedule, for our MHV Fly-In on Sun, Feb 15.
I understand MHV now has a
nice new restaurant. Jeff Cary was given a
complete van tour of MHV and I'll give you his tour info on the next email
(MOHAVE UPDATE # 1) in a few weeks.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
