Hi Folks,
Sorry for the delay in emailing our Fly-In info, but my computer got
hijacked by some spyware and had to be grounded for a few days and
sanitized.
Seven planes and about nineteen people made the Harris Ranch (3o8) Fly-In on
Sun, May 16th. This was a surprisingly large group, especially for 250+ mile
flight each way.
Flying out of Gillespie (SEE) were: Andy Silver, Mike Gretton & Lilly in a
Comanche; Robert Werve, Doc Vital Haynes & Fiona in a 337; Jeff Cary, Jerry
Jackson &
Betty in a 172; and Doc & Ted Kennedy and Michael & Lorna in a 337.
Flying out of Redding (RDD) was Jeff Picardi and Bob in a 172.
Flying out of Montgomery (MYF) were: Gary Ghio & Gary Kauffman in an Arrow;
and Chris Claborne & me in a 172.
It was a terrific day for a fun Fly-Out. There was the usual marine layer
over
over MYF, but hardly anything over SEE and the same over RDD.
Visibility was great once we left the SAN area, and even the LA Basin, was
clear. Everyone landed at 3o8 between 1100 and 1130.
Before departing SAN, I called the restaurant and reserved a table for
twenty people. They did much better than that. They reserved a whole room
for us. About a dozen people sat at a long table in the center and others
in booths around the table.
We had lots of chuckles & laughs with hangar flying ranging from aviation,
to Presidential candidates to the next Fly-in and really had a great time.
And the food was okay. Our Webmaster, Chris Claborne, took pictures of our
group and has them on our website
I got a little saddle sore on the 2.5 hour flights, but it was worth it to
get together with a good bunch of people who have much in common, enjoy
flying and hangar flying once a month. Besides the fun, I believe we
contribute much to keeping our small airports and businesses operating.
Our next Fly-In will be on Sun, June 6 and closer to San Diego. Mike Gretton
suggested Rialto (L67) because they have a new restaurant. A couple others
suggested
Riverside (RAL) and French Valley (F70). Any other suggestions for a nearby
airport?
As for me, I'm partial to small, out of the way, airports because they
aren't as busy and their restaurants are friendly and need business or they
"fade away".
Someone suggested alternating between Saturday & Sundays for our Fly-Ins.
Any opinions on that?
Incidentally, I'm flying in one of two 337s going to the Rocky MountainFly-In
near Denver on June 24-28. Thus far, I have four rooms and two cars
reserved. We'll be gone about five days. Anyone else interested?
Please forward this info to passengers who occasionally come with you rather
than me adding them to a growing list of addressees.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
