Hi guys,

On our Fly-In to Apple Valley (APV) on Sun, April 17, we had 14 people and 7
planes, but with a slight change in planes.

Flying from SEE were Dave, Betty & Dick in a 337, Robert, Joe & Butch in
another 337 and Jeff in a 172.

And from MYF were Mike & Chris in a 172, Bret & Jerry in a 172, and Jim & me
in another 172 .

However, Bret & Jerry had an inop oil gage and scrubbed the flight. But that
wasn't the end of it for Jerry. He went over to SEE and got into a Cherokee
with Don and they did make it to Apple Valley just as we were leaving.

MYF weather was IFR with bottoms at 400' and tops at 2000'. Weather at SEE
was breaking up around 0830 and they got out VFR.

But the cloud deck at SDM was down low and solid and Dennis decided not to
scud run around and look for a hole to get up and out.

The en route flight was over the usual morning marine layer and the "white
rug" beneath us ended around French Valley. Then it was smooth air and a
little fuzzy until we crossed the rocks north of the LA Basin where it went
to severe clear.

Leonard, the new owner of APV's restaurant was a gregarious fellow who put
three tables together to accommodate us. The service has improved
considerable since he took over and the food was good. He said he's opening
other "Leonards" at North Las Vegas and Henderson and handed out coupons for
some sort of free meal offer.

Unfortunately we didn't take any pictures, but maybe next time.

After we solved all the world problems during our hangar flying session over
breakfast, we discussed the May Fly-In. As usual it's on the third Sunday of
the month on May 15th. Destinations ranged from Van Nuys (VNY), Chiriaco
Summit (L77), Fla Bob (RIR), Palm Springs (PSP), Santa Monica (SM) and
Borrego (L08). Give me your input as to which of these airports you'd like
to fly to. I believe we were leaning toward RIR, but I'll wait for some more
responses from all the guys in our "Group".

No one seemed interested in Oshkosh and as far as I know, only Dennis Cullum
in his RV3 and Jim Newport and me in a 337 are going. Anyone else
interested? Dennis is looking for a room mate and Robert Werve is looking
for a flying partner.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex http://tonytex.com/
