Hello Everyone,
Eight people in four planes made Our Group July Fly-In on July 15th to Brackett (POC). From SEE: Kennedy & Betty in a C-337 and Jerry Jackson, Jeff Cary & Bryant Cary in a C-172. From SDM Dennis Cullum in an RV-3. From MYF Bret Strain & Tony Tex in a C-172.
Everyone was ready to go at 0900, but the weather wasn't cooperating and it was still IFR. Doc & Betty and Bret & Tony got an IFR clearance and punched up on top. The clouds barely broke and lifted by 1000 and the other two planes launched and we all got up there within 15-20 minutes of each other. Doc & Betty had seats saved for us on the patio overlooking the runway. Nice sights and airplane noise.
The restaurant at POC is usually busy on weekends and the service usually isn't bad for a weekend. HOWEVER, it WAS BAD this Sunday. But in their defense they had a helluva crowd because of the many, many people who brought planes and cars for display there. The owner of the restaurant even came over and apologized for the service. Ah, chalk it up to experience. If that's the toughest part of our lives, we got it made.
Dennis Cullum got some pictures of us at breakfast and will send them to Chris Claborne to put on our website.
During our "hangar flying" over breakfast we solved some world problems, but save some for the Aug Fly-In's hangar flying. We also decided take off times for future Fly-Ins would be at 1000. No more everyone waiting around the airport and wringing our hands waiting for the clouds to lift. That'll work. If someone would like to leave early they can be our "advanced party" and save seats at the restaurant.
We also decided on the next TWO Fly-Ins. The Aug Fly-In is on Sun, Aug 19th to Big Bear (L35) and the Sep Fly-In is on Sun, Sep 16th to Fullerton (FUL). As for alternate dates, they will be the following Sunday.
Good Fly-In and lots of fun and camaraderie.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
