Hello Everyone,

Today our Fly-In went to our alternate, Riverside (RAL),  because Apple Valley (APV) was forecast to have 25-30 knot winds with gusts to 40 and blowing dust.

Six people in three planes made it to RAL.  The six, pictured below, sent in by Robert Were, sort of look like a group from the rogues gallery. Robert Werve and Dennis Cullum were our photo guys. Chris will post the the pictures on our website.

Dennis flew out of SDM in an RV3. Jeff Picardi flew a 172 out of SEE, and also flying out of SEE were Robert Werve, Don MacManus, Robert Ridout and Tony Tex in a 337.

We squeezed the flight to RAL between the two cold fronts. The weather was CAVU and we got to RAL, had breakfast and back home before there was even a hint of the approaching front from the NW. But on the way back home the air got a little lumpy, but nothing to write home about. The front from the NW should get to SAN tonight or tomorrow AM. Jim Newport emailed me from Las Vegas saying they had 30-40 knot winds gusting to 50 and trees were down everywhere. Glad we didn't go "over the rocks" to APV.

We did the usual "hangar flying" over breakfast at RAL and chatted about flying experiences. You know something like, "There I was on short final, inverted and lost power. In the Navy, if a story was true, it's called a "No Shitter". Other wise it was "Sea Story". I think some of our "hangar flying" were the latter.

Besides having a great time over breakfast everyone wanted the next Fly-In to be to APV on Sun, Jan, 18.

Our Fly-Ins are generally on the 3rd Sunday of the month, but pilots at the Fly-In usually decide which airport to go to.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
