Hello Everyone,
Well after getting skunked a couple times, ten people in five planes from
SDM, MYF & SEE finally made it into Fullerton (FUL) for a Fly-In on Sun,
June 14th.
Dennis Cullum flew out of SDM in a RV3.
Mike Schmied and Dominic flew out of MYF in a 172.
Flying out of SEE were Bret Strain & Tony Tex in a 172, followed by Gary
Ghio & Gary Kauffman in a Cherokee Arrow, and Robert Werve, Bob Ridout and
Dave Talkington in a 337.
Weather was not the picture perfect day we'd like for Fly-Ins. Around 0800
the ceilings were 1500-2000 and we decided to postpone our departure until
1000 and wait for the ceilings to rise along the coast and FUL. They did.
Along the coast ceilings were broken 2500-3000. Once out of the SAN area,
the ceilings were scattered to broken at 4000 and some areas were clear.
Inland was a different story. Ceilings only lifted to 2000-2500, but were
broken.
Everyone got out IFR. HOWEVER, Dennis left SDM VFR. He always finds a hole
and weaved around the inland stuff to FUL. As a matter of fact, he was the
first one to FUL while the rest of us were vectored all over the sky by
SoCal.
We did the usual "hangar flying" over breakfast and Dennis took pictures
and will forward them to Chris Claborne to post on our website.
In spite of the weather, it was a good Fly-In with a lot of camaradarie.
Next Fly-In will be on Sun, July 19. I've got suggestions for Camarillo,
Santa Paula, Pomona, Corona, Riverside and Flabob. All single suggestions,
but no real majority. I'll wait a week or so for more input for a majority
on which airport to fly into.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex
