Hi Guys,

If you didn't make it, you missed a beautiful CAVU day for the Chiriaco
(L77) Fly-In on Sun, 12/12/10. It got a little lumpy over the hills, but no
one reported hitting the overhead, and the winds at L77 were a little
squirrely on final, but not enough to require a white knuckles landing.
Fantastic day for a Fly-In.

Twelve people in five planes made this Fly-In.

Flying out of SEE: Jerry Jackson & Jeff Picardi in a 172 and Bert & Russ
Bade in a bi-wing Great Lakes.

And from MYF: Mike Schmied & Chris Claborne in a 182; Red Howard, Paul
Tostenrud, John Paszek & Sarah Pazek (she did some flying) in a 182; and Jim
Newport & Tony Tex in a 337.

Over breakfast we did the usual "hangar flying" and also discussed the
next Fly-In. After breakfast some people flew back home to enjoy flying in
great weather, others walked over to General Patton's Museum, and some
chatted longer at the breakfast table before departing. Great time.

The next Fly-In will be on Sun, Jan 16 and TENTATIVELY will be to Hesperia
(L26). However, on AirNav.com, I called the number for the Mile High
Restaurant and got no answer. Anyone know of a good number to reach the
restaurant, or someone who's been there recently and know for sure they are
open? If you'll need fuel, you might want to confirm it's available for
4.41/gal by calling (760-947-0807 & 760-885-1346).

In the meantime I'll continue trying to reach the restaurant and will info
you as soon as I find out. If they are NOT open, we'll fly to Apple Valley
(APV).

I don't think we'll need an alternate, but in case we have a forecast for
strong Santa Ana winds that report high winds with turbulence, we'll stay on
this side of the hills and go to either Riverside (RAL) or Flabob (RIR).

RAL has two runways to accommodate various wind conditions, whereas RIR
has a narrow, short runway which can result in "interesting" X-wind landings
in windy conditions. Pilots sometimes watch the "landings". We'll play the
alternate by ear.

Anyway, we'll fly to one of four airports for the next Fly-In on Sun,
1/16/11. Reserve a plane, or get yours ready, and check your emails for
additional info later on.

My cell phone (619-997-4858) will be on until lift-off about 0845.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
